Acquiring DDR3 read and write data with a logic analyzer is a difficult task. Read data straddles the DDR3 strobe edges while write data is center aligned to the DDR3 strobe edges, thus requiring different sample points for read and write data acquisition.
This is further complicated due to the skew between data bytes and the skew between bits within each byte. Analysis of this information is difficult and time consuming. Identifying valid sample points and adjusting thresholds to optimize data eyes requires both an intimate knowledge of the DDR3 specification and the logic analyzer.
